Choosing a wedding hair stylist

A wedding is said to be one of the most significant events in a person’s life.  We all dream of the fairytale perfect wedding day where we look the most amazing ever!  With the Bride being the centre of attention for the day, it’s no wonder this decision on choosing a wedding hair stylist is a super important one!  Not only that, the Bride and the bridal party need to look their best, the whole day!  The hairstylist needs to be able to listen to the Bride and her dreams, and turn them into reality.   But what do you need to keep in mind when trying to select that special person to style you for the day?

Choosing a Stylist

There is so much value in asking for Recommendations from friends who were recently married.  They’ve been there, experienced a stylist, and either been happy or not so happy.   Follow up with recommendations by calling them and planning to meet them so you get a feel for the Stylist yourself.  Are they available on the weekend you are planning your wedding?  Are they approachable?   Do they listen to your ideas, your wishes, your thoughts, or are they trying to tell you what they think you should do all the time?   What are their prices, and does this include trials and touch ups throughout the day?   Do they go above and beyond to make your wedding day amazing?  These are all questions you need to ask.

There are a number of other ways to find a good stylist too.  It might be that your current hairdresser can offer this service, or recommend someone who specialises in the area.  Your current hairdresser knows your hair and your expectations, and can possibly help.

You could also visit some local Hairdressers and chat with them.  Ask for pictures of weddings they have been involved in, can they offer a trial so you can see whether they do what you want them to.  Don’t forget the benefit of checking out a Businesses Facebook page to see how they interact with people.  What are the pictures of their previous weddings like?   Or are they simply posting everyone else’s pictures?  Are they approachable, friendly, are there good recommendations?

Always do a trial

A simple and casual haircut is different to preparing a hairstyle for your special day, so make sure that well before your special day, you organise a trial.  This gives you time to find someone else if you realise the hair stylist you are in front of, isn’t really for you!

Giving a little back

You know how stressful this process is for a Bride, why not allow your hair stylist to share some of your photos or add them to their website or portfolio.  If your experience was a good one, share it!   You’re not only saying thank you to the person who made you look amazing, you are helping other bride’s who are in the exact same position as you were!
