Scalp health

Many of us think that merely taking care of our hair will ensure that it will not fall and premature graying of hair will not take place. This is far from the truth. You must know that your scalp is the platform and foundation on which your hair has grown and unless you take equal care of your scalp, you cannot aspire to continue to have luxuriant hair growth that retains its colour over time and does not start graying. Proper scalp care will automatically mean better hair root and shaft care as well.

Now, why is scalp health important?

During the course of the day, our hair and scalp are exposed to various kinds of elements and these tend to accumulate on the scalp. The hair root is an area that traps excess oil, as well as bacteria, and over time they can lead to a lot of problems like the hair follicles becoming weak and falling off. You may also start getting acne and pimples. While good hair care products do their bit to ensure such bacteria build up does not take place, it is your responsibility to ensure that you use them regularly.

Some of the shampoos that possess anti-bacterial properties are able to remove the dirt gently without causing any harm to the texture of the hair. It is necessary to apply shampoos that are gentle on the scalp. They must not only clean the scalp totally but also not irritate it such that the follicles get damaged. Once you have a clean scalp, you can rest assured of quick and healthy hair growth.

An itchy scalp arising out of the use of any of the hair care products can also lead to hair fall. Other problems that may manifest are seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and even ringworm. Yet another condition called folliculitis can also occur due to the hair follicles getting blocked. These are problems that have been induced due to improper selection of a hair care product and cannot be put down to any physiological changes in the body due to a trauma or stress.

Fortunately, these are topical problems and can be addressed through proper scalp care. Do not try over the counter medication for these problems and consult a dermatologist. In addition to making use of the right hair care products, regular exercise, good sleep and a balanced nutrition will help you manage your scalp.

A healthy scalp automatically leads to good and healthy growth of hair that does not prematurely turn grey.
