Is your hair dull and lifeless?

Though it is a fact that, to a great extent healthy hair is often genetic, you cannot go by only that maxim and stop caring for your hair if you are blessed with good hair. Similarly, if you are not that fortunate to have luxuriant hair, you need not give up hope of getting a good crown of hair. It all depends on the kind of attention and care you give your hair.

If your hair has suddenly started looking dull and without life, you need to address the problem quickly. You must start with identifying the possible reasons as to why this has happened. The reasons could be change of food habits, stress at work, not getting enough sleep or even the use of a new hair care product. Once you have isolated the reason, you can take remedial action.

On the other hand, if your hair always has a dull look to it, the problem is more endemic and you need to tackle it holistically. It means that your hair is not strong enough and does not possess bounce and vitality from within. This will require you to attend to the root of the problem (pardon the pun) literally since you would have to ensure that your hair roots get the right nourishment that they have been lacking so far.

Before you try out any of the hair care products, ensure that you try it out on a portion of your hair and only if there is no sensitivity to the product should you go ahead and apply it fully. A good nourishing shampoo and conditioner would be ideal to set right the problem of dull hair and impart lustre to it.

However if, despite the use of these products, you still find your hair lacking bounce and life, then it may be due to a residue build up of the different products you have been using and you will need to get rid of them. This can be done through the use of a clarifying shampoo. It will wash away built up residue and give your hair a shine that will last. If this too does not work, then use a volumising shampoo that has a conditioner. This will impart volume to the hair and at the same time smooth the cuticles of your hair.

Do not let conditioners remain on the hair and try to avoid products that contain lanolin and other such oils at this stage. If you want some shine, you can try some colourless gloss. Use the blow drier very sparingly and at low temperatures taking care to see that the hair roots are first dried.
